“Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a
prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with
purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body
like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that
after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.”

“And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For  whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake
and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole
world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?”

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: ‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life. I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you
may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will
give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.’”

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he
may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded;
be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a
little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ,
will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the
dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:6-11
